Here is a listing of some caregiver support groups and services
Long Island Caregiver Coaching Program
Managed by the Peconic Bay Medical Center/Northwell Health in Riverhead, this AARP Long Island-affiliated program is housed within a Caregiver Center that offers trained volunteer “coaches” who support families providing care for loved ones at the Medical Center, as well as those recovering at home. While the Caregiver Center primarily serves residents in Eastern Suffolk County, Northwell plans to open up a similar facility in Manhasset. For information, call 631-548-6259.
Caregiver support groups offer a safe and comfortable place for caregivers to talk about the experiences of caregiving, share resources and ideas—and help care for each other. Most groups hold regular meetings, often with a facilitator who is a health-care professional or social worker.
There are dozens of support groups throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties, sponsored by government and social service agencies, adult day care programs, religious institutions, hospitals, nursing homes, libraries, senior centers, “Y’s,” and community social service agencies. Here are some resources to help find a support group in your area:
